A traditional herbal salve inspired by remedies of old, made with comfrey and St John’s Wort, slowly infused into nourishing oils, and blended with beeswax, coconut oil, and a touch of soothing arnica.
Comfrey — long known as “knitbone” — has been valued for generations in herbal medicine, traditionally used to support the body’s natural recovery from strains, ligament damage and even bone fractures. St John’s Wort is equally revered for its calming and comforting qualities, often used to ease tender, overworked areas. Together, they create a deeply restorative blend.
This salve is enhanced with essential oils of wintergreen and peppermint, chosen for their refreshing feel and their traditional association with stimulating the circulation.
I turned to a simple comfrey poultice during my own recent experience with a broken bone, finding it highly soothing and supportive. This salve carries that same spirit — a gentle, plant-based way to care for a damaged body.
I recommend massaging/rubbing in a thin layer to the affected area before bed or rest. This salve is for external use only and given the addition of essential oils, I would test a small area on the skin (such as the wrist or forearm) before wider use.
